Cork Footballers

Connolly is a show pony, not a team player.

Forget about him if the ambition is to get to the top table. How long would be last in an elite set up (Dublin, Tyrone, Kerry)? Surprised he’s even on the panel to be honest. We could live with the occasional showboating if he was actually producing an end product, but that’s almost completely absent also.
Only player on the team willing to play it forward. He’s been key for cork in recent years. Would you rather have O Callaghan in that half forward like who can’t kick a ball?

Connolly can be frustrating but has obvious talent. Certainly worth a place on the panel because he is more fruitful against lesser sides which is most of the league campaign.

We want guys who can kick the ball. He can kick it. His work rate and ball winning are on the lower end of the scale though. We aren’t in a position to be throwing him to the side yet though.

Key for Cork???????
Best player on the pitch in win over Kerry in semi final and him getting injured in final cost us the game.

Agree that he needs to work harder off the ball but he is one of the best kickers of a ball in the country.

He certainly has an eye for a pass, point or goal. He needs to tidy up his general play and work harder in many aspects but in the league we are in, he can be more than useful.

But this is like a trend with Cork. The strong and athletic guys can’t kick it and the good kickers aren’t strong or athletic enough. One a bare few meet all the criteria for a top player.

about 1 in 5 come off though, and when it does it's spectacular.

some of Saturday's stuff was abject - now maybe he's rusty and all.

Yes it probably was first outing in a while after being knocked out early with Nemo. That one spectacular pass is what makes the difference in games though

If the alternative is someone who is powerful but has no eye for a pass or doesn’t have the skill to pull off a good pass then I’m not sure I want that.

Connolly is a more than useful player to have on the panel. He won’t be required every game but I’m sick of looking at big lads running around and going backwards with handpasses.
