Wuhan Wheeze

Ya some very interesting research coming out at the moment. There's a new danish study which examines immune evasiveness. It shows that people who are fully vaccinated with booster are 3.66 times more susceptible to get omicron than unvaccinated people.

Apparently Ireland is still 2 weeks away from peaking.View attachment 9820

Extraordinary claims require data.

I doubt the study is saying being vaccinated increases your chance of catching Omicron.

What I suspect that study shows is that because of the protection against previous variants, boosted people don't get previous variants, whereas unvaccinated people do.

To give an example, say in a population of 100, 50% are boosted, 50% are unvaccinated.

The boosted crowd have a 20% chance of getting Omicron and a 2% chance of delta, so 10 boosted with Omicron and 1 with Delta, a ratio of 10:1

The unvaccinated have a 60% chance of Omicron and a 20% chance of Delta, so 30 with Omicron, and 10 with Delta, a ratio of 3:1

So the boosted group have a 3 times higher chance of getting Omicron vs Delta, but a much lower risk overall.
But there's your headline for a disreputable science writer/sub editor.

And then there's the seriousness of the infection, from previous statistics of risk, one of those unvaccinated people would probably be seriously ill from Delta. Omicron looks much lower.
None of the vaccinated people are likely to be seriously ill
