United - Liverpool net spending in Modern Times

Even though it's mentioned in the thread title, the key word in all this is 'net'. It's pointless comparing just transfer fees paid without also including transfers fees received.

I haven't fact checked, but read that Man City have a higher *net* spend than Barcelona AND Real Madrid added together, since 2008.

Seems impossible until you consider Neymar and Ronaldo's transfer fees.

Man City seem very bad at making money from sales.
Since 2008 the only players Man City sold for £15m or more are:

£25m for Iheanacho and Negredo
£15m for Javi Garcia
£18m for Balotelli
£16m for Robinho

Compared to Liverpool
£20m each for Ings + Solanke
£25m for Sakho
£130m for Countinho
£15m each for Allen and Ibe
£28m for Benteke
£50m for Sterling
£75m for Suarez
£15m for Carroll
£50m for Torres
£18m for Macherano
£15m for Meireles
£30m for Alonso
£15m each for Keane and Crouch

Man Utd OK but not great when compared to Liverpool:
£15m Blind
£30m Mkhitaryan
£20m Sneiderlin
£55m Di Maria
£18m Wellbeck
£80m Ronaldo

I always like to add in the £3m loan fee Liverpool got from west ham for Carroll the season before he signed permanently, just to take some of the edge off it like 😂
