Bus Eireann.

There are posters on here who are economically and politically naive.
Do they not realize that a States essential utilities, such as Transport, Electricity,Gas , Water, Telecoms are all part of the Nations wealth and belongs to THEM, the Irish people.
They wish to give it away by privatisation and then put themselves at the mercy of uncontrolled Corporate monopolies.
The lessons have been hard learned in the UK. When they privatised the Utilities, the Govt floated shares.
What the dumbnuts did not fathom was that they were paying for something they already owned.
The ultimate scam.
The Irish education system has produced a generation of unthinking eejits, lacking in common sense,a very rare thing in itself. They are ready to give away their birthright and fall into the trap being set by Govt and prodded by the EU, and privatise the State assets. This is Corporate looting ,pure and simple, facilitated by a supine Govt.

Is that because we disagree with you?

I have no issues with semi state companies, it's the entitlement attitude of the leeches that are employed there and the unions are what gets up my goat.

The leeches that you are referring to are the workers ,who are entitled to a decent wage and pension for their efforts.
The more they earn ,the more money circulates in the economy, giving employment to many more.
You are falling into the trap ,of demonising the workers against your own best interests,
The age old political tactic of divide and conquer and then defeat.
The everyday people were and are always their own worst enemy.
Direct your ire at the real culprits in Govt, who have sold the country down the river.

You must he a lefty supporter.

I believe in a free market and competition not protection for leeches. Many of whom have been in the same semi state generation after generation.

I don't understand the thinking which believes that all busses should be state owned and operated.

Why not lorries too?

There should be some subsidies for uneconomic routes, school buses etc. But the whole school bus thing should be regularised - let old folks or whoever else get into town to collect their pensions or dole or whatever. And charge the oldies 30% or so of the regular fare, they've been freeloading too long.

The problem with private operators is it's fine if you want to go from the city centre to Dublin airport but if you want to get to the towns along the way that are bypassed it's not so easy.
