Directed by Maeve Kelleher and Ally Futto, MAKING MOVES return to Firkin Crane for their 5th summer with SUMMER MOVES - an exciting combination of dance, acrobatics and song. A fast moving, varied show to brighten and entertain ... creative, inclusive and multicultural ...
The programme contains dance of many genres - Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Jazz, Modern, Ballet, African, Azeri, Gypsy, Oriental Bellydance, Indian Folk Dance and Irish!!! Highlights include a reworking of a duet choreographed by Maeve in 2012 - Set Fire to the Rain - lyrical contemporary, taking inspiration from the story of Romeo and Juliet, with an exciting new dance partnership - Brazilian dancer Daniel Gradisse dances with MAKING MOVES dancer Amber Harrington. Musical Theatre is represented by - Motown The Musical, Fame and timeless The Lion King. A new contemporary piece -The Champion – explores the lengths to which we push ourselves to succeed and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of defeat. A mash–up of hits including Disco Inferno, Let's Groove and You Should Be Dancing celebrates the
age of Disco – DISCO INFERNO! If the sun doesn't shine much this summer, the costumes for this surely will!
The wonderful MAKING MOVES performers are joined by a number of very special guest artists to add even more variety and colour to the night ... from Turkey - Fatos Turget will dance Azeri and Gypsy dance, from China - Dawn brings Oriental Bellydance, and from India - Joanna Dukkipati – Indian Folk Dance. Three stunning dancers and experts in their own fields of dance are a joy to watch perform! Christine Forde School of Dance bring a flavour of Irish Dance with award winning young dancers. featuring precision traditional footwork.
Accomplished Cork singer Tanya Adamson makes a welcome return and this time collaborates with fellow singer William G. Mangan and violinist Rly Decent on a special segment - Music of the Night . Tanya also joins forces in this show with actor Kevin N. Power in a thought provoking piece Where have all the flowers gone – highlighting the futility of war. Kevin has also written a number of original poems/prose pieces for the show. MAKING MOVES is extremely proud to have recently had an original song written about them! And composer Terry Lingwood will perform it live in this show – promising to be an unique performance with Terry surrounded by the dancers who inspired him!
