Sherkin Island artists, photographers, musicians and craftworkers are preparing for the island’s annual community art exhibition. Part of West Cork Islands Festival, the exhibition ‘Samhraidh Le Cheile’ (Summer Together) officially opens in the Community Hall on Sherkin Island at 3pm on Thursday 13th June and will run each day until 5:30pm until Monday 24th June. The exhibition is curated by Sherkin Island artists and former graduates of the island’s Visual Arts Degree Programme, Brigid O’ Connell Madden and Jean Dunne, and it will include all aspects of the visual arts including drawings, paintings, sculpture and photography. Craftwork such as basket-weaving, textiles, knitting, wood-turning, ceramics and jewellery will also be featured.
