The Lavit Gallery is delighted to present ‘Outer Edges’ a series of paintings by Cork based artist, Ita Freeney. The exhibition will run as part of Cork Harbour Festival 2019.

Atmospheric, quietness, and a minimal aesthetic are characteristic of Freeney’s paintings. Her prime interest is in the subtle transitions between different areas of tone, light and muted colours achieved through the use of light applications of paint. Originally a painter of pure abstract works, she has, over the years, looked more and more to reality and distilled this into her work.

This exhibition of paintings is inspired by views of the estuary from the artist’s home and studio at the edge of Cork city and other areas around Cork Harbour. Freeney repeatedly observes and studies these views at different times of day, in different seasons and from different vantage points. The prominence of the lyrical, airy, ephemeral grey blue tones of sea and sky is contrasted and anchored by more graphic, vertical urban motifs.

Artists Talk: Saturday 8th June 11am.

The exhibition will continue until 22nd June
