On the 1st of August a group show of several art groups from and nearby Macroom opened in the town hall. This year will be the third edition of this successful exhibition that brings testimony to the fact that art brings people together in a unique way and that it has a rightful place at the heart of the community, building community spirit and enriching lives far beyond the canvas and paintbrush.
All groups are tutored by Ann Mechelinck, a local artist who started Creative Gems Art Studio, giving classes in drawing and painting, in 2017. The goal of Creative Gems Art Studio, she says, is to bring together creative individuals that enjoy painting and/or drawing and to give them the opportunity to socialise with other like-minded spirits, to meet people and make new friends in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while developing their talents, each at their own pace and inclination.
Classes run on a weekly basis from September to the end of May and each term concludes with an exhibition of the work of all the
groups in the town hall in Macroom during the month of August.
Everyone is welcome regardless of experience or ability, whether you want to brush up on your skills or are just starting off; all media are accepted: watercolours, acrylics or oils and teaching is tailored to the individual.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge from Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 4pm. In collaboration with Cork County Council.
