Native New Yorker Claire Hawkins unites her love of country and folk songwriting with her pop sensibilities in her modern Americana music. Growing up in a family of literature fanatics and casual musicians, she latched onto songwriting as a way to connect to those around her through her love of storytelling. Writing her first sets of lyrics at just nine years old, she later picked up the guitar. She learned her first chords from her Rolling Stones fan dad, who made sure “Dead Flowers” was one of the first songs she could play.
As a performer, Hawkins is nothing if not honest. She presents her whole self on stage, combining the intimacy of folk shows with the energy of a rock n’ roll concert. Since cracking her way into the New York City music scene through an open mic night at a burger joint in the East Village, she has performed at clubs such as Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, and The Bitter End.
