Default ISP phone call to a customer.

A friend just got a phone call from their ISP 'advising' them to stop downloading music files. Bad sign for the internet.

Personally I would have told them to go to hell and dropped them as a provider. Anybody else have a view on this?

So that means Eircom were lieing then?

It is important to note that:

* eircom will not monitor its customer's activities at any stage.
* eircom will not implement any form of monitoring equipment or
software on its network.
If your mate got that call then they must be monitoring [obviously they do like ]

It's not actually Eircom who are monitoring. They basically agreed to the music companies paying a third party to monitor the downloading, and the information is given then to Eircom by the music companies.

It might be a small point but was it just music files they said?

Was it torrents or actual music files?

Is he convinced it was genuine? I heard something similar where it was somebody taking the piss. I'm surprised an ISP phoned, you'd imagine they'd write.

I'll try and get more specific data. the downloaders are just kids really and they only downloaded the usual popular music using 'limewire' I'm pretty sure of that.

I'm just annoyed at the fact that they got a call, it is not the ISPs' business to tell anyone what to do or not to do in any respect as far as I am concerned. I'll try to find out more details.

And who the hell are the music industry think they are these days, they are not the internet police! I won't even get started on that! (only to point out the fact that the internet revolutionised the music industry with mp3 files and players). Greedy bastards.
