» Cian Walsh
| Got first guitar at aged 11, being advised by his father to invest the ol' confirmation money into Rock n' Roll. First song learned was Bob Dylan's 'Knocking on Heaven's Door'. It wasn't 'til discovering the joys of Nirvana, RHCP, Pearl Jam and other 90's groups, that Cian really got cracking on guitar playing, signing up for guitar lessons, with local jazz guitarist Mark O'Leary at 13. This opened new avenues, linking Cian with Mssrs Mark McAvoy, Paul O'Brien and Steve O'Keefe, going on to play lead guitar with 'Dust' at age 16. After playing the old Lobby Bar, the band disbanded. Subsequently Cian hooked up with classmates Rob Moylan and Conor Nelligan, with Paul O'Brien still bangin away at the drums, to form 'Blame'. College saw a change of direction with the formation of 'Freefall'. After jamming with schoolmates Kieran Lane and James Deasy, the lads managed to get hold of Rochestown drummer Ciaran Madden. Simon Deasy was invited in to do vocals, with the drumming talents of Mark Murphy being employed on occasion. After a number of gigs, Freefall disbanded. Cian pursued a bit of travelling, before returning to his native Cork in more recent times. Last year saw the inclusion of 'Hear me out' on the Southern Fried II compilation. More recently in 2008, 'Grab a Seat' featured on the 'Wednesday Night Music Club' charity cd, which was awarded 4 stars in a review featured in the Evening Echo newspaper. |
