I don't see what the problem is with shortlisting Cahill. He was probably one of the Top 10 performers last year in one of the big 3 leagues and he also did well playing for his country as they made it through to the 2nd round of the World Cup. He was never gonna win it but there are usually loads more on these lists that have no right to be on there.
I personally think Cannavaro is a deserving winner. I'm just gutted that a guy like Paolo Maldini never won an award like this as far as I know and he probably played at as high a level for 10 years.

Well deserved, but what has Henry done to merit third spot?

Comes from a country with a big selling daily sports only newspaper?
(L'Equipe)

Italia has one too hasn't it, Gazetta De La Sporta (sp?) and Spain?

That would be my view, it's the same with the European Car Of The Year awards.

i thought lehmann had a great 05/06 season. drogba didn't, but he is playing well this season. henry getting 3rd is a bit ridiculous imo, then again i don't think many players did play outstandingly well (maybe he got it by default). i woulda thought luca toni woulda been higher.
fair play to tim cahill, he's playing very well this year and its hard to get into these things if you're not playing for one of the 'big' clubs.
