Default let's face it...

if ireland ever won the world cup we'd be harping on about it year after year, and decade after decade...the same way england do...but we moan about that...

are we hypocrites?

I would fully give credit to the genuine English footy fans and their great players (Rooney, Gerrard etc) if they won the tournament but there's a feeling that they are kind of bullshitting their way through the competition
Even Terry looked poor at some stages and their manager is an idiot-Lennon should have been on that pitch when Beckham was puking and Beckham himself has just gone on about how he has proved the critics wrong
No, you've proved that Ecuadors keeper is not good at defending routine free-kicks

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we get British TV/newspapers here so it's practically rammed down our throats whether we like it or not, whereas if it was the other way around and Ireland were going on and on about past glories England wouldn't hear us boasting about it because they don't get RTE or Irish papers over there.

True

They are our bigger neighbour and frankly couldn't give a fuck what we think

The English media still reckons the Empire is alive and don't really care what anyone in the colonies (!) thinks of them

We Irish are a lot more obsessed in a way and have to prove ourselves more to them and the world
Pardon my generalisations buts its interesting

Im the first to admit that i'm endlessly entertained by watching the media fall out when England lose big matches
It doesn't bother me when they win that much though
I think after today that players like Rooney and Gerrard have more to offer the World Cup than Cruz and Tenoria
