TCP and UDP
http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/

it's not like a cars engine that has a max and min speed.

you take many different paths going to different computers which are all over the place. you go through many different networks which operate at different speeds, and which experience congestion.

you can use iperf to measure TCP and UDP in both unicast and multicast modes, between your machine and some other machine.

one will need to run an iperf client, the other will run the server.

give you nice stats afterwards too.
