There really is no competition.
Freddy Mercury at live aid defined the eighties.
Guns'n'roses were a fad. Over-rated at the time.
Their music hasn't aged very well either with the exception of Sweet Child of Mine.

And they couldn't even play/sing their own tracks. Aside from showing just how successful a publicity engine can be, G&R are best forgotten about I think.
