Default Pompey reveal interest in Keane!

Unlikely considering he said he wouldnt play for another premiership club, but given the apparent manner of his departure, who knows?

From sky sports.com
Portsmouth have declared their interest in signing Roy Keane following his shock departure from Manchester United.

The Fratton Park outfit have become the first club to reveal their interest in the Irishman.

Keane sensationally quit United on Friday by mutual consent after 12 glorious years at Old Trafford.

The midfielder's departure had led to intensified speculation as to where Keane will go, with his boyhood favourites Celtic believed to be leading the race.

Pompey have signalled their intentions to try and sign Keane by making initial enquiries about the former Nottingham Forest ace.

"Following instruction from Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric, the club's chief executive Peter Storrie is making enquiries about the availability of former Manchester United player Roy Keane," read a statement from Portsmouth.

"Mandaric believes Keane is exactly the kind of positive character Portsmouth Football Club would welcome."

A move to Portsmouth seems highly unlikely as Keane has previously stated that he could not see himself playing for another English club
