Default Billy Kelleher's Abortion Agenda

Looks like his proposal to have abortion on demand up to 12 weeks and abortion up to birth for a baby with specified defects will be carried by the Oireachtas Committee. I wonder where does Billy stand on Downs Syndrome?

Marie Stopes can reward him by allowing him to cut the ribbon of their first abortion clinic in Cork

Down's Syndrome is a fatal abnormality now? News to me.

I am not in favour of Abortion on demand, but outright lies and hysteria are not the way to defeat this proposal.

So Billy Kelleher is trying to be the David Steele of Irish Abortion. Steele as leader of the Liberals was responsible for the 1967 abortion act. Years later when he saw the carnage that ensued when the controls in the Act were circumvented to provide abortion on demand he said that he regretted the legislation.

The documentary with the recptionist from the travel tavern in alan partridge is still in my head. She has a dows child who she loves and thd programme focused on what is happening to pregnancies with downs. In iceland downs has been practically irradicated. In the uk it is heading that way. People with downs can live rewarding lives. Sure they have development and some physical problems but it is not a fatal condition at birth.

People do not want downs children. I wouldnt want one. Lets be honest here.

If i had one would i love and care for it. Of course.

I am pro abortion but that documentary truly disturbed me.

You'd rarely see them in Germany either.

A woman in my hometown had a Downs baby, must have been 20-30 years ago, when it was born she didn't want to know. She didn't bring it home from the hospital. I dunno what happened it, presumably it was institutionalised.

Women are rarely prosecuted for abandoning newborns like that. It can also happen with healthy kids but it's more likely with those with defects.

And then the question arises, who's going to care for these unwanted children?

The difference being of course which you left out was that the abortion act in the UK was inacted by parliament. Here it will be voted on by the Irish public.
