First time buyer's grant introduced by Coveney to be axed. This was a daft idea in the first place and shows a misunderstanding of economics. It would have just increased prices by 20000.

People like Karl Dieter have been saying for years the problems are not on the demand or finance side, the problem is lack of supply.

So making more finance available just increases the amount of money chasing an already limited supply, thereby increasing prices.

Always a moronic idea. Got Simon few headlines when he took over the housing brief but never going to make a difference.

A thicko policy introduced by a thicko politician.

A load of taxpayers' money wasted on subsidising the building industry and buyers who didn't even need the money in the first place.

It was so obvious at the outset, wasn't it? Really shows up Coveney's limitations.

No proof

The second link is an opinion piece again no proof
"Sources close to the minister" - tall, balding, privately educated sources, no doubt.

Nothing wrong with private education.

Official confirmation this week that Simon Coveney (FG) missed his self-imposed deadline of 1 July for moving homeless families out of temporary hotel accommodation. https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2017...using-ireland/

Michael Noonan (FG) and Simon Coveney (FG) succeed in needlessly driving up house prices and increasing homelessness in Ireland.

The report's author, Ronan Lyons, said: "After two years where Central Bank rules had capped house price growth in the capital, the relaxation of those rules has helped drive prices further up."
