Thumbs down RTE = A National Embarrassment!

As one of the worst national broadcasters on the face of the earth, RTE has for years been accused of small scale corruption, widespread nepotism, plagiarism and being a creator and distributor of fake news reports.

The version of Ireland, which RTE attempts to depict doesn't exist and in many cases never existed. RTE has nothing to offer the Irish people and is completely out of touch with modern Ireland.

It is a self-serving, self-promoting broadcaster, which is of no value to the Irish people. It is time to replace it with a national broadcaster that the Irish people can trust.

You are about 90% correct. In fairness to rte, there are some aspects which are top class. Just a couple of examples, their current affairs programming is more often good than bad bringing topics of national importance into the limelight (ie) mother and baby homes, Sean Gallagher's presidential campaign faltering when he revealed dropping brown envelopes of cash off to a fella's house for FF on a Pat Kenny show etc. Sports coverage is as good as any broadcaster but the gaa coverage is getting dated compared to tg4's offering.
But the rest of rte's offering is pure tripe and is of no benefit to the nation as a national broadcaster due to its money hungry idiots on both tv and radio.

I like RTÉ, everything from Nationwide to all the home produced stuff .... fair city excepted. I'm an Irishman, I like to know what's going on in my home country and RTÉ does a reasonable job. Whenever I lived abroad, I missed it.

It would be interesting if RTE it was turned into a pay channel. I wonder how many people would voluntarily pay €160 per annum to watch it.

Very few, I suspect.

That is exactly what I have always thought as well.

They would find reality being a bitch.

I would. I think their news coverage alone is well worth the €160.
