on Sicily - the wine is the tits, you've figured this out. At this stage Sicily has a valid shout for being one of the top 3 wines regions in Italy. Wineries/wines to hit up while you're there - Firriato (Santagostino or Harmonium), Feudo Maccari (Saia), Donnafugata (Tancredi) and Gulfi (Nerojbleo). Wines from Etna are en vogue at the moment too although they are rarely cheap, good stuff though

As for the place itself, Taormina has been mentioned, lovely spot but will be mental in August. Do you really want to go to Italy in August BTW? The entire country is on their months holiday there, its roasting hot and mental busy. Anyway, Catania is a shithole, you can use the train along the east coast if you like. Agrigento is a good spot. Best diving is off Siricusa if its your thing

Rome is a top, top city. Just follow your nose while you're there.. its a small city. I always enjoy the nights out when we end up in some random local spot we found by chance way more craic than the beaten track tbh. Make sure you get to Piazza Navona at around 5 some day for a prosecco, Cul de Sac wine bar for a savage selection of wine

Not much to be said for either place really except that Rome is the greatest city on the planet, Sicily the greatest island and taormina the greatest town.

Have to try the Gelato from the shops in Rome. The ones where there are no seats but people queuing are the best. I would recommend The Vatican and other basilicas worth seeing. Avoid the tourist trap cafes and restaurants where you can get seriously ripped off, mainly those right next to tourist attractions. Make sure the wine doesn't come out in a carafe as it usually tastes like piss so enquire about it first. The night life is good there, clubs stay open all night, people are friendly.
Leather is cheap there for shoes, bags, jackets or wallets and belts. Don't be afraid to go off the beaten track either. Definitely one of my favourite cities.
