Considering some of this crowd were willing to call one of their own(McCabe) a sex abusing pervert, I'd say they would have no bother setting up Bailey.

As for never being another suspect, they focused on Bailey from day one the incompetent corrupt arseholes.

A garage owner reported seeing Sophie Toscan du Plantier with a mystery man days before her brutal murder, the Irish Sunday Mirror can reveal.

The man, who was working at a petrol station in Skibbereen, West Cork, at the time of the French film-maker’s death, gave a statement to gardai about the sighting.

He told investigating officers that a woman fitting the description of Sophie had been in the garage getting petrol for the blue/green Ford Fiesta rental car they were driving.

The statement, obtained by Irish Sunday Mirror, states that Sophie was seen with the man on December 20, 2006, just three days before her beaten body was found on an isolated pathway near her holiday home in Toormore, near Schull, Co Cork.

It’s understood the sighting of the mother-of-one occurred hours after she flew into Cork from France.

The man spotted in the car with Sophie, who was described as being tall and wearing an anorak top, has never been tracked down.

Last night, the Irish Sunday Mirror talked to the garage owner who gave the statement on January 3, 1997.

The man in question, who does not wish to be named, said he is still 100% confident that the woman he saw that day getting petrol from him for her car was Sophie.

He said: “The woman in question pulled up to the garage for petrol.

“There was someone in the car with her, a man. He was very tall, his head was touching the roof of the car. He was wearing an anorak that was turned up high so you couldn’t really see his face.

“She caught my attention straight away because her looks were so striking. She was tiny, a very small woman.

“I filled the car with petrol for her. It only took £10 (Irish pounds) at the time. The man in the passenger seat paid for it through the window.

“The guards who I gave the statement to said that it couldn’t have been her as she was spotted in Ballydehob buying firewood close to the time I gave that day. We didn’t sell firewood at the time and that’s why I think she stopped there later on.

“Apparently, the man in question was no longer in the car with her.”

The garage owner added: “I’m 110% sure it was Sophie I saw that day. I have no doubt about it. I think that it’s very important that the gardai look into this sighting again.”

Gardai arrested English journalist Ian Bailey, 55, twice on suspicion of murdering Sophie, but never brought any charges against him. No forensic evidence links him to the murder.

Mr Bailey was identified as a suspect at an early stage, but always denied any involvement.

A key witness provided statements saying she saw Mr Bailey at a bridge near Sophie’s home. But she later withdrew them, claiming they were made under pressure from gardai.

Officers have been accused of not pursuing other lines of inquiry. One man, in an extra-marital relationship with Sophie, was named in a 2001 DPP report.

The German national committed suicide. He left a note saying: “I have done something terrible.”

...that's pretty much covers it (nothing has changed there)...that they managed to fuck things up for the victim, her family and the accused is some accolade for a would be a 'justice organ'...par for the course for them, shame really to include all, Garda James O'Donoghue for instance, who carried out investigation(s)inde pendently but never the less a reality of their 'culture' is inept at best and utterly corrupt at worst of people wearing 'Garda' costumes.
