The primary objective of IWD is to end violence against women.

Why is it difficult to support that?

With 1 day a year, how many years will it take to change all those numbers?

Usually I'd make a sexist joke now.

But D-minator has my email address and is not afraid to fuck my shit right up.

Are the femen and pussy riots not doing a better job?
Is radical action better? Does it need to be supported more vocally?

I m willing to support the Irish female amazons. First 2 actions:
- fight for abortion
- no nonsense sexual education to 15-18 years old (of both gender).

We can celebrate when results are in the bag

Great thread D'oriel
Plus, it's also a benchmarch day going back over a 100 years where you can do side by side comparisons of progress made during the previous 12.

What's getting worse, what's getting better.

For instance, the introduction of the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence (against anyone) b y the Council of Europe that was immediately signed by 18 countries. It has since been signed by all 25.

Turkey took the initiative of having this ratified also, towards getting it integrated within national law in 2012.
Ratification by Portugal and Albania happened in 2013.

Radical action tends to alienate those moderates and conservatives (and all general rich and powerful men) to ensure that objectives are rarely achieved.

Radical action results in schism in social and political circles - for strong and lasting change, there needs to be serious levels of cohesion across the spectrum.

Plus, radical action in any arena also brings out the crazies that can give the rest a bad name, and undermine the reasonable demands for change.

So lets sign conventions and meet again in 12 months. I'll have a PowerPoint with animated charts.
