Default The Chastitute,John B.Keane 11-28 April

Making history at Cork Arts Theatre with Cork Rep's debut performance

Based at Cork Arts Theatre, Cork Rep is Cork's new professional theatre company, with some of Cork's finest and best loved actors its debut production will be John B. Keane's "The Chastitute".

Opening 11th April "The Chastitute" runs until 28th April at Cork Arts Theatre.

Regarded as one of the greatest Irish writers, John B. Keane's story telling is at its best in "The Chastitute".

John Bosco McLaine (The Chastitute) is a bachelor farmer from the Cork/Kerry mountains. Having never married he lives a lonely and isolated existence. He has never been with a woman but now, in his fifties, his elderly aunt employs a matchmaker to find him a wife. Having never mastered the art of courtship in his youth, (I was too fast when I should have been too slow, and too slow when I should have been fast) this leads to some hilarious consequences. The first of many Cork Rep productions "The Chastitute" promises to enthrall its Cork audience. With an unerring grasp on the complexities of 1960's Irish society "The Chastitute" entertains, moves and charms.

Directed by Cork Arts Theatre's Artistic Director Dolores Mannion "The Chastitute" boasts an impressive cast of Leo Conway, Michael Murphy, Aidan O'Hare, Martina Carroll, Fionula Linehan and Michael Carroll Morris.

Brilliant show this evening! Well done to all involved.

Caitríona Ní Chonchúir
I agree...best line.... He could castrate a banabh blind folded but he couldn't put a knot in his tie! I'm recommending to all my friends to go and see the show! Loads of laughs!

Phil Lynch

Sheila Waldron
I laughed and I cried! Actors were completely credible, lighting was sensitive and congrats to the director!

"Aidan O'Hare described as no less than the local whoremaster, is so comically sleazy you're checking for a slime-trail as he schmozes across the stage"

"Martina Carroll ...is hilariously uncouth"

"Fionula Linnehan... puts in a fine comic turn"

"A very welcome new beginning for the theatre's new repertory company"

Liam Heylin, Evening Echo
