Verlander was totally dominant today, sox could barely get a sniff of it. That said,Lester threw well too, tired in the 7th,which is to be expected.
A lot of good pitching today it would seem, Strausburg, Dempster, Doc also threw well.

You're starting early
I don't know will the east be as good as they're all predicting. The Yankees are a team in decline,Riveira,Jete r,A-Rod have all seen better days, pitching is very suspect as well obviously outSide of CC. The Sox it breaks my heart to say it but I reckon the year could turn into a farce, dare I say it even Jets-esque like. I can see Valentine and Cherrington having a few major bust ups, there's no doubt they already have. Beckett will act like the spoilt prick he is once he realizes he hasn't got the fans total backing and his thumb starts playing up,Youk will prob be injured for half the season,Aviles can't hit shit,Ortiz will have a longer slump than usual,Bard will be a disaster as a starter,Aceves could go nuts and kill someone and we have no closer for the season. back to the Red Sox days of pre 04. With that here are my final nominees

American League
East --Rays
Central--Tigers
West--Rangers
Wildcards--Angels and the Yankees

National League
East--Phillies
Central--Cincy
West--Giants
Wildcards--Dbacks and Nationals

World Series-- Tampa and Phillies

Papelbon to blow a save in game 7 and Tampa win it all.You heard it here first

And here was I all excited to secure a burst of tickets today (well, yesterday now). Great seats too and I think I have 3 Saturday games - happy days! Or so I thought

Now there's just the matter of marathon Monday to be sorted.

If you want an insight into the business world of MLB, come along to the Irish Sports Summit (www.IrishSportsSummit.com) on the 25th of May in Ballincollig and listen to the keynote Speaker, Pat Gallagher, the longest serving Executive at the San Francisco Giants.

Patrick J. Gallagher bio

Pat Gallagher, one of the longest serving executives in San Francisco Giants history is credited with being among the most creative marketing and business minds in professional sports, entertainment and the visitor industry during his 40-year career.

After leaving the Giants, in 2010 he formed Gallagher & Associates to focus on management consulting and concept development in professional sports, technology, entertainment and the visitor/hospitality industries. Recent work includes launch of the Alternative Golf Association/ Project Flogton, a start-up venture he co-founded developing growth strategies for recreational golf, the Rose Bowl Stadium renovation project and concept development for the Northlands Sports and Entertainment complex in Canada. Gallagher is a partner in Seventh Inning Stretch, operator of three minor league baseball franchises. He is a frequent speaker on sports management and the visitor industry.

Pat currently serves on the San Francisco America’s Cup Organizing Committee, is co-founder and vice chairman of San Francisco’s annual Kraft “Fight Hunger” Bowl (formerly the Emerald Bowl), board member of Martin Resorts, and the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Gallagher capped off his 33 year stint as the top marketing/business and “idea guy” for the Giants as president of Giants Enterprises LLC, a subsidiary of the Giants coinciding with the opening of Pacific Bell Park (now AT&T Park) to develop profitable non-baseball ventures and business opportunities for the organization. Giants Enterprises became an industry model for such ventures bringing major concerts, civic, motor sports, soccer, football and alternative events such as ski jumping, ice skating, beach volleyball, opera-in-the-park and County Fair as well as adding major private event productions to the organization. Gallagher and AT&T Park were recognized by Sports Business Journal as their first “Sports Facility of the Year” award winner in 2008.

He was a major contributor to the design and development of the Giants acclaimed waterfront ballpark, creating the park’s original marketing plan, securing the naming rights, key corporate partnerships and establishment of the Charter Seat License concept which were foundational elements required to make the first privately financed major league ballpark in over 30 years a reality. Among Gallagher’s other notable contributions to the ballpark were the Coca-Cola “Fan Lot” with landmark Coke bottle and three-finger baseball glove, “Splash Landing” feature on McCovey Cove and introduction of the first technology based secondary ticket market in sports, forerunner of StubHub and variable ticket pricing.

As the Giants senior vice president/business operations during 23 of the “Candlestick Park years”, Gallagher gained national recognition for promotional flair with legendary thematic marketing campaigns aimed at selling tickets and generating a personality for the notoriously cold and windy ballpark. The “Croix de Candlestick” decoration for fans braving the elements, “Crazy Crab” the anti-mascot, Circus Wallenda high-wire sky walk, “Ball Dudes”, Fog Horn and baseball’s first full time female PA announcer, classic uniform and brand elements were among the most notable of Gallagher’s contributions.

Pat was the Giants first Director of Marketing in 1976, coming to the club from similar posts at Marine World/Africa USA and Sea World theme parks, where he got his start in the business as an hourly seasonal employee.

He served the City of San Francisco as chairman of the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau (now called San Francisco Travel), first chairman of the City’s Tourism Improvement District and was a founding board member of Major League Baseball Properties, on the board of the California Chamber of Commerce and president of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Peninsula
