If there is a mid week gig in Dublin that I have to see, and can't take a day off, I have often gone up and down the same day, park at Red Cow, and Luas all the way in. It's not that bad, get back to Cork for 2amish. Share the petrol cost with a friend and at least the costs are low and you still get to see the gig.

No, it's not that often I do it, so I'm fine with it. Haven't stayed in hostels in a long while myself, just an option available when budgets are tight.
