Default Is this another way of describing doping ?

From the Irish Times' report on Derval O'Rourke's Silver Medal.

The 24 hours afterwards had been the inevitable whirlwind (RTÉ exclusives, dinner at Burger King, etc) but standing on the podium under the imposing pillars of the old Olympic Stadium allowed her to fully embrace the moment: 12.63 seconds for Nevin Yanit, a Turkish record; 12.65 for O’Rourke, an Irish record. Beaten by a Turk’s head.

“Maybe if I was in the lane next to her, I could have pushed her over, or something,” joked O’Rourke, wondering what it might have taken to win.

“I really thought Carolin Nytra was the one to beat. (And O’Rourke did that, with the German third in 12.68.) But I didn’t think Yanit would go 12.63.

“I could be negative about her. But it’s not that she’s come from nowhere. It’s just that she’s never performed in a major senior championship before.”

Yet at only 24, the Turkish athlete has made remarkable improvement, having dropped a full second off her personal best in 2008 (she’d failed to finish her heat at the last Europeans).

When O’Rourke first saw Yanit this season she thought “maybe I should be in the gym a lot more” – but that at least, she ( O’Rourke) could still wear a dress.

Indeed it will be interesting to see how much faster the Turk does go in the coming years

Very well spotted Anvi-y. I thought exactly the same. The journo either didn't have the balls to develop the point or he didn't get it. Both are damning enough for me.

Are you really saying that a woman who looks like this could be doping?

Nytra looked seriously pissed, not just disappointed, but pissed at the whole thing. Maybe the Turkish girl's improvement is a topic for debate among the athletes in that event?

I actually said before the race "Jesus, that Turkish one is all muscle". And dropping a second off your PB in sprinting is a bit suspicious. Definitely something of the Michelle Smiths about her. It'd be interesting to see pictures of her before her dramatic time improvements. She reminds me in appearance of the Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou, who had that unfortunate bike crash on her way to the testing centre with Kostas Kenteris a few years back.

Sure old whisky piss was the victim of circumstance.....Fre e the Rathcoole one.

Nevin Yanit is 24, if she was 18 or 20, then ,maybe a second wouldn't be that surprising, but to drop that between 22 and 24 is quite surprising. Even if it is a technical event.

Agreed. It's a bit easier to see how incredible dropping a second is in this event if you put it in terms of distance. She would be beating herself 2 years ago by about 8 metres!

True dat. It's a crying shame when an Irishwoman can't have a relaxing few gallons of the ol' water of life for herself without being persecuted for it.

There doesn't seem to be any early photos of Yanit, but here's one of Thanou:

Good-looking woman to muscle-bound shemale in just a few injections. I wonder will she go the whole way now and just have a sex change like some of the East German athletes. I'm surprised the likes of Marion Jones can even still have kids. I suppose the East Germans were given industrial doses in comparison, but I still can't understand why they do it? It's nowhere near worth it.
