And dead right too. He would have been wasted in the Stones and certainly couldn't have played second fiddle to Keith Richards. Stones are probably the most over rated bands of all time i.m.o

Theres a funny story about Rorys Fender being stolen from the tour van in Dublin in the early seventies. He was disraught and nobody could talk him out of the depression he was feeling. A guard went on Garda Patrol and reckoned that the guitar was useless and was very noisy but had sentimental value. When the jokes were going around and the thief figured the guitar was unsellable he returned it!

Agree with this. I like the Stones but some of their material is very overrated whereas outside Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium and a few other countries Rory doesn't get near the respect he deserves.

He was born in BallyShannon and moved to Cork when he was 8. I'd say it was hard to keep the Donegal accent!

never heard anything about him joining cream however the stones defo had him over to 'audition' in holland in the '70's, but rory wasn't interested and after a few days of jamming went off on tour

jeff beck was also invited to jam and, like rory, moved on fairly fast

Apparently he was asked to replace Eric Clapton on a tour. Taste and Clapton had the same agency and had previously toured together.
