Default Music on during The Trash Culture Revue 16 - 20th June

Music on during The Trash Culture Revue 16 - 20th June
All gigs are free unless otherwise stated

Bloomspace: Wednesday 16th
Performance and food at The Sextant @ 6pm

Bloomsday in Cork? Certainly! Although not even the cheekiest Corkman could ‘claim’ Ulysses for the rebel city, he would point out that Joyce’s father was born on Anglesea Street and that Cork play’s a significant role in Joyce’s Magnum Opus.

There will be wine, kidneys and gorgonzola to dine on as well as musician Ken Cotter singing original self-penned songs based on the novel, the Eden Singers, a Cork Choral group who perform choral works from the book - and a few readings too

Keith Mullins: Thursday 17th
Music at The Roundy Upstairs@ 9pm Tickets: €7/5

Expect music largely influenced by American musicians such as Townes Van Zandt, Ryan Adams and Conor Oberst

Jinx Lennon: Friday 18th
Music at The Roundy Upstairs @ 9pm Tickets: €10/7

Using his words, electro beats, a six string and bullhorn Jinx Lennon A.K.A. Free State Nova exposes his cracked mirror view of Hibernia and society in general, drawing the audience into his world like a drowsy insect into the mouth of a flesh eating plant

Mutant Cabaret: Friday 18th
Performance at The Savoy Theatre @ 10pm Tickets: €5

Performing in the Cabaret are:

Elizabeth Howard
performing The Sea; a collaboration of live performance, video and soundscape in collaboration with Jaqui Galvin and Joe Harney

DJ Kevin Blake
playing his own composition on decks, alongside The Cork City String Quartet.

Stephen James Smith
currently Cúirt Literary Grand Slam Champion 2009 (as well as many other things) and hosts the Glor Sessions in The International Bar, Wicklow Street, Dublin every Monday night

GetBerned
an American singer/songwriter, guitarist and performance poet.

Lady Grew
an actress/singer/dancer hailing from Ohio. In her incarnation as Madam Gentle Wreck, she will be combining her talents to deliver an invigorating display via her electronic ranting, vocal raving, mad theatrics, and flagged by her post-apocolyptic fly-girls

Chixie Dixx
the newest, colourful alter ego of Dutch sultress, Maaike Mijland. Her creative silliness translates into writing, drawing, designing, dancing and taking to the stage with cabaret acts, burlesque dances, theatre plays, dramatic spoken word, with or without a big black moustache.

Ruti Lachs
an accomplished accordionist and is generally seen playing with The Fireflies, the Klezmer band based in South-West Ireland. She’s currently playing solo, working as a music teacher, youth worker, mother and student as well as being a wood collector, washer-upper, not-enough-sleeper, and much, much more

The Jitney Trio
Composed of Marian Murray (violin), Neil O’Loghlen (double bass) and Han-earl Park (guitar), the Jitney Trio is a small-scale, real-time, improvised music ‘chamber’ ensemble. The members of the trio have performed in Canada, Denmark, Ireland, The Netherlands, the UK and the USA

Wasps vs Humans
a performance poet. Over the last year he has been supporting Jinx Lennon on a number of dates around Ireland, including Dublin, performing with Captain Moonlight and Christy Moore. More recently he has toured with Chunky Planet in a Music Poetry Mash Up Tour.

Chunky Planet: Saturday 19th
Music at The ESB sub – station @ 4pm

A husband and wife collaboration, Chunky Planet’s commentary style lyrics and alternative indie/folk sound is no recipe for nostalgic love songs. A ‘tell it how you see it’ approach, they switch from the sweet to the absurd, always bringing a certain edge and rawness to their music.

Story Slam + Eleventyfour: Saturday 19th
Perfomance at Meades Upstairs @ 8pm

The theme for the night is GREAT EXPECTATIONS. All entrants will be given 5 minutes to tell a true story based on the theme. The audience will decide which story wins the night and a prize will be given to the winner. Performing at the Story Slam will be:

EleventyFour
who came into the world backwards and has done things in her own way ever since. Her shows are characterised by offbeat banter and quirky songs. She has been compared to Kimya Dawson (Moldy Peaches) and comedians like Flight Of the Conchords and David O’ Doherty and her Dad thinks she’s “better than Celine Dion.”

Ruti Lachs
an accomplished accordionist and is generally seen playing with The Fireflies, the Klezmer band based in South-West Ireland. She’s currently playing solo, working as a music teacher, youth worker, mother and student as well as being a wood collector, washer-upper, not-enough-sleeper, and much, much more

Pearse McGlouglin + Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies: Saturday 19th
Music at Meades Upstairs @ 10pm Tickets: €5
“The musicians that impress me operate at borders . . . cross them when they need to, stop short of them if they need to. It’s sometimes a difficult terrain to navigate.” To date, Walkperson has served as the nom de guerre for Pearse McGloughlins songs and the musicians who have played with him.

Guitarist and songwriter Harry Bird teams up with good friends the Rubber Wellies (Christophe Capewell and Maria Blackwell) in a British/Irish/Bilbaino folk con-fusion… Their first self-produced album, “Long Way to be Free”, is an exploration of faith, love and displacement in a world made up of contradictions that swings between intimate rootsy folk and a joyful assortment of quirky circus rhythms.

Trash Country Boogie: Sunday 20th
Music/food at The Sextant @ 3pm

A Sunny Summer afternoon of Cowpunk music, beer and the best finger lickin’ food in town with Hank Wedel MCing and SS800, Aaron Dillon and band and Novella Hermosa playin' the toons

Nassau: Sunday 20th
Music at The Roundy Upstairs @ 9pm

Nassau hailing from Cork, Ireland, have a guitar driven sound, unlike anything you have heard before. Their songs are melodic and invariably drive you to that irresistible urge to stamp your foot or punch the air, allowing yourself to completely resign to the music, if only for a brief few minutes

Theres also rehearsed readings, film, performance, slam poetry, theatre, art and workshops most of it free so go to themutation.com for details
