GF and i are heading there shortly and would like some advice on where to stay. we're on a bit of a budget so would be looking to spend 50 each per night for a room, if not less. we've seen some nice hostels online that have private en suite rooms, not a chance that we will share with other stoners!
Just curious if anybody has any recommendations please? good location is one of the main things too. Cheers

and search by highest rating, as the ratings are given by people who have stayed there and they are usually accurate.
Stayed in St. Christophers at the Winston last year, very central for everything,but very basic, and very average, to be honest I wouldn't stay there again,but it would fit your budget, private rooms with en suite are around the 80 per night mark.

For 50 each per night you can get a decent hotel room in Amsterdam without having to mix with the scumbags who use hostels.
There's a few ways of doing this.
1. Google any decent hotel findingg site sch as www.hotel.com
2. Try using IHG Friends and Family scheme to get big reductions on Crowne Plazas or Holiday Inns.
You don't have to be a friend or family ... use this link.
3. www.lastminute.com have mystery hotels in Amsterdam where you book a hotel without knowing which one. They're usually good and you can normally find out which one it is by Googling the brief description they give you.
4. Priceline is also a good way of getting cheap hotels.
