Over the Christmas

Sleep no more - PD James. 6 murderous short stories. Perfect for reading beside the fire.

A horse walks into a bar- David Grossman. Loved it, though it requires concentration to read it. Would make an excellent film.

Boy wonder - Dave Hannigan. Grand, but not great. There is a very funny paragraph about him imagining the bomber Liston fighting black bears though!

The Adversary - Emmanuel Carrère. Really interesting story of a French murderer, though the writing is a little too flowery imo. Based on a true story.

Currently reading "The Gospel according to Blind Boy" . 3 stories in and am loving it. He has a bit of the Flann O Brien about him.

The Biafra Story by Frederick Forsyth.

His only factual book. About Biafras attempted seperation from nigeria and nigerias brutal repression of thebreakaway state including creating a famine of biblical proportions.

Darktown. Fiction.Good book based on the first black cops in Atlanta.

Snowblind. Fiction. Murder in remote Iceland. Mediocre. I was genuinely excited about this and it never really got motoring despite a promising start.

The Dry. A great thrashy thriller that's an easy read. Very good

Child 44. Again an exellent page turner. Really liked it.

Conclave. Enjoyable and an easy read.

Currently reading A Line in the Sand about the Sykes Picot agreement. Good so far but only a few pages in.

Enjoyed those two a lot. Found the descriptions of the workings of a conclave fascinating. Snowblind was on my list too so disappointing to hear a bad report of it.

Child 44 was a good book but they made a mess of the movie.

Just finishing "We, the drowned" Nice book but about 100 pages too long.

Finished The Ceremony by Silko - I'd never in a hundred years have guessed it was writ10 by a woman. It's written in spirit time rather than linear time but that's not what makes it hard to read. Recommended.

Currently reading The Night Manager by John le Carré while catching some of the miniseries on TV. The miniseries looks interesting as they changed quite a lot from the book but Laurie's accent sucks in it. Book is typical le Carré.
