Default Goodbye to Faulkners Lane. Hello Opera Lane

I saw on the echo tonight where it said the new street from Emmet Place to Patrick St is going to be called Opera Lane. Hello City Council this is not a new street as there was always a street there called Faulkners Lane, there used to be a bar down before I think it had various different names. Anyone know who it was called after ( who was Faulkner ) and does anybody think its name should be retained. This is another piece of history being eroded. I know Faulkners lane was agrim place, but why change it.

12.4 EXTINGUISHMENT OF THE PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY AT
FAULKNER’S LANE, CORK.
On the proposal of Comhairleoir B. Bermingham, seconded by Comhairleoir J.
Buttimer, An Chomhairle approved the report of the Assistant City Manager dated
29th November, 2007, regarding the extinguishment of the Public Right of Way at
Fauklner’s Lane, Cork. An Chomhairle also agreed to adopt the following
resolution:-
“Now An Chomhairle hereby RESOLVES THAT
Having considered any representations and/or objections which were received in
writing within the prescribed statutory period setout in section 73 (1) (a) of the
Roads Act, 1993, it is now hereby Ordered that the Public Right of Way at
Faulkner’s Lane from its junction with Emmet Place in a south-easterly direction
along Faulkner’s Lane for a distance of approximately 80 metres to a point
approximately 18 metres from its junction with St. Patrick’s Street, is
extinguished forthwith”.

So apparently it's not even a right of way anymore, The little buggers.

The Galway races had nothing to do with this. It was originally to be changed to "Opera Lane," but City Council went with "Opera Avenue."

I would have liked "Roy Keane Way," meself to be honest, or even "Terence McSwiney Street."

The lane is named after Mr. Riggs Faulkner who opened a bank there in the 1760's.

No.

That's Drawbridge St.

This one ran from Drawbridge St (or was it Emmet Place) to Pana.

Was the bar on it called Taboo?
