It does seem a bit "David Haye's Toe"-esque - probably something to it alright but blown out of all proportion and no real bearing on events - are we supposed to believe that Michael Shields, double All Star, and a man with a track record for shutting down almost completely (Coulter) or limiting more than anyone else could (Brogan) the effectiveness of opposing star forwards just got lucky? Seems insulting to Shields to be honest.
I think Shields roughed him up a bit in a couple of early encounters and that put manners on Cooper - no surprise that it was new boy O' Sullivan that Cooper acted tough with. Wouldn't go within a country mile of Shields with that kind of stuff.
Some interesting training sessions and possibly challenge game ahead for Cork.
With our two best young forwards gone and both of them natural leaders, it'll be up to Donncha and Goulding to get on the ball more and get stuck in. In the semi final last year, it was O' Neill's introduction that really kickstarted them as before that, they were very quiet, not showing at all for the ball.
The same occurred on Sunday, with neither getting as much possesion as they should have done, although Donnacha suffered from some very ropey decisions against him.
Well what do you expect given what I was reading here! I knew last week we would give a better account of ourselves than most langers expected, but I also knew that Gooch was dodgy and that there were weaknesses in the Kerry team, so kept quiet enough.
By the way lads...don't know what price he is now, but my little tonne on Declan Sull for player of the year at 16/1 is starting to look nice.
Id say you might have backed the wrong O Sullivan kid .
Cork have lost to nobody bar Kerry since 2004. Therefore, the conclusion that we are scared shitless of them has a lot of backbone. More than a lot of the lads showed on Sunday. That's just the way it is! Look at 2009. Beat Tyrone convincingly with 14 men and then shat the course in the all ireland final. Cork will win the all ireland if they avoid Kerry this year. Will be happy to take that any day but it's like winning the World Darts without beating Taylor. There's a team around still better in many people's books...

Wonder is it an issue more with older players - if it is, losing O' Neill and Sheehan an even bigger blow as they along with likes of Shields, Cotter and Cadogan seem to have no issues with performing against Kerry, possibly due to beating them on a regular basis at underage level.
Is Counihan too cautious, not letting him team drive at Kerry and expose their undoubted weaknesses until it's too late?

I don't think so now with Sheehan and O Neill gone for the year. That is unless Kelly, Kerrigan and Goulding start playing out of their skins. Also, we want to beat Kerry in Croker, you can bet your bottom dollar that's why Counihan stayed on this year.
It's an itch that has to be scratched.

Good point, over the past few years every time we've driven through the middle of them we get a lot of joy, their backs although classy are seriously uncomfortable with O Neill, Kerrigan, Miskella, Kissane, Canty and O Connor running at them in waves. Should be the main gameplan the next time we see them, Get Kelly, Goulding and Donnchadh to bring their men out of the middle and go at them.
Of course we'd also need be getting our defending/ kick out strategy right, but this is something that should be a given at this stage of our development.
Kicking away possession and avoiding one of the biggest assets the team possesses in the fielding of Walsh and O'Connor.
Its like the players have no real faith in the tactics for the team and their belief only grows when the they have a mountain of points to overturn and the shackles come off.
This habit of giving large leads at half time might be exciting to watch but you won't get away with it every time and the likes of Dublin and Down wont be fooled again and will be expecting it.
Cadogans introduction seemed to lift those around him and I hope to fuck he will be starting for the rest of the campaign.
This could be a a nice eye opener to the team and some of the supporters if some of the pre match comments are anything to go by.

Of course you did, one of the travellers in Killorglin or Tralee dealt the tarot cards out for you and you knew everything that would transpire. I bet you told the baying animals who booed Declan O'Sullivan off the P u C field in 2006that he would be a great too, but P of Y awards are never handed out for provincial games that will be forgotten about in three months , sorry to inform you.
