I cant believe you've been getting by, all this time, with used needles. Thats disgusting.
I rob doctor's surgeries for mine.
On a side note, Concorde ortofon dj s or cart stanton 505's are prob best entry-level, depending on what you're actually lookin for. I hate pricking around setting the carts right, cos I've sausage fingers, so its concordes all the way for me
Not much as Im leaving the country in a few months and will not be bringing decks with me. Im borrowing some decks, their twelve tens but have no neddles or cartridges or any of that. I don't know what Im at with this side of it though, like if I buy these:
I use the ortofon concorde dj s - which are pretty nice (hans is dead right about the setup of them). I find that I don't get as long out of the stylii as I should (3-4 months of fairly light usage).

You mustn't have the weights set up correctly TLC, thats a ludicrously short time to get out of needles for home use.
I've had my Shure whitelabels a good 8 months at this stage and they're still fine. Thats using a good few hours a week.

Yeah I thought as much Eoin. My old cheapy stantons lasted me for years. I have the weights setup at the level recommended in the wee booklet that comes with them. I replaced them both recently from a different supplier and am gonna keep a closer eye on them.

If they last the same length again I'd think about getting new carts.
There's definitely something not right about them lasting a few months.
I'd say nightclubs are getting longer use out of needles than that.

I'm getting close to a year's heavy use on my DJ S, TLC.
I've weight ~3g, anti-skate 3, height even with platter when balanced. I dont even tend to get any feedback, or skips, at that. Something's odd about your setup...
