Based in Cork, Boa Morte have been building their lo-fi/melancholic sound since 1999. They have played on various bills with the likes of Teenage Fan Club, Calexico, The Webb Brothers, White Magic, The Pernice Brothers and June of 44 to name a few. Their first album "Soon It Will Come Time To Face The World Outside" was released in the UK and Ireland on Scottish independent label Shoeshine Records to widespread critical acclaim. The band have a second album in the bag which is still waiting to see the light of day. As part of Glasgow's Celtic Connections Festival 2009, Boa Morte play a one-off international show with the much-feted Attic Lights, Norman Blake of Teenage Fan Club, Euros Child of Gorkys Zygotic Mynki and Francis McDonalds BMX Bandits.

I don't know if Boa Morte could ever reproduce the exquisite brilliance of "Soon It Will Come Time to Face the World Outside" live but I for one will keep watching them try. They closed with a magical version of North Star that sent shivers down my spine. Here's hoping they don't take as long as GnR to release the oft rumoured second album. Good luck with the Glasgow gigs lads, here's hoping we'll see a renewed effort in 2009!
