Grand ye can access via a plug in monitor. Ok if that is working then you don't really need to worry about refresh rate - fyi - its in advanced settings.
Ok what ye need to do is check that the correct display is enabled. generally, if an external or plug n play monitor works it means preference has been given to extended desktop. I had a laptop with this problem not long back (Actually I've had a couple in this year).
So, ye need to go into desktop properties. Right click any where in teh free space on your desktop (This is using the plug in momnitor that you can see stuff on) and select properties. Display properties will open. Next select the tab named Settings and then click on the Advanced button. Once your in there you may have to hunt around but what your looking for is Graphics Properties.
you need to make sure that the settings are for single display and for your notebook not a plug in monitor.
Or you could do as TLC has done and disable/un install your nvidia drivers. Not really the best thing to do as you end up with generic windows vga drivers and no advanced graphics...

I think il take it down to Cork Computer Clinic and see what they think. Its quite hard to explain on here what i mean. ive never seen an error like this b4.
