Default Berlin

Alright,
Just bought flights for me and my buddys there to Berlin. Going for 3 days mid week. Just wondering if anyone can recommend the best things to do and see over there. Wanna get the most out it in the short space of time we'll be there. Also any good hostels/bars/clubs anyone knows of?

Cheers!

east7 hotel is exellent, 2 stops from alexanderplatz on the bahn. http://www.eastseven.de/

Go up the fernsehturm.
Reichstag, brandenburg gate and the wall are worth a look. zoo is ok. lots of museums to see, the jewish museum is pretty boring
very easy to get around, public transport is exellent.

oh and make sure and lash into a currywurst

try this gaff if you dare

I'm also going in February for the first time.

My philosophy is to stay in the general area you are going to be at night. During the day it doesen't matter. From the brief research I did, Berlin Mitte is definitely where it's happening at night. It's only a few stops away from sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, checkpoint charlie.
And a friend from berlin says stay in the Eastern part of the city.

Checked out the East 7 place,(mentioned above) looks really great, and I wanted to book it,but I prefer private bathrooms which they don't do.
They also advertise an appartment on the website, but it's not actually available to rent at all !
However, they were very helpful and gave me the name of this place which I booked which is in the same area.

They have seperate buildings for their hotel and hostel. Something for all budgets in there.Went for the 2 bedroomed appartment as there is 4 of us going.

It's in the hotel section of the website and for 150 per night between 4 including brekkie, you can't go wrong.

Bumping this as I'm going to be in Berlin with work in mid-January and I'm planning on taking a day or two to explore the place.

Any other recommendations, bearing in mind I'll be on my own?

stayed by checkpoint charlie while i was there, great for the site seeing and you could actually walk everywhere handy except for the clubs and the mail shopping street in west berlin.

if you are into techno/tech house scene you have to go to Berghain/Panorama Bar - its crazy beyond belief crazy (no cameras allowed). its a weekend spot for the most part though.

nicest restaurants etc are all in the east side, great beers etc but they ain't like pubs here. but honestly wherever you go something will be happening its a great city.

tourist wise i'd recommend you get an opentop bus tour that will show you where everything is and from there you can plan what you do and do not want to see. the museums and opera house uni alexanderplatz the TV tower etc are all very close then down the other end of under de linden is the reichstag and the brandenburg gate. check point charlie and the berlin wall are a ten minute walk aswell.

there is load of ww2 shit aswell but to be honest i would find that a bit eary so stuck with the above

Might be a bit cold in the middle of January?

Cheers for the info though, that's useful.

also there is a major day time early morning party venue called bar 25 by the river. again its dance music in a whacky german sense.

some of the opentops busses become closed top during the winter months - you know what i mean though - double decker tours.

resident advisor is a good site to check up on the nightlife btw - will have upcoming gigs and list all the different clubs and links all those that play certain music - most likely if will be the end of the month before they have the events for january up though
