Default Horse breeding query for Nawfullanger...

..Or anyone else with sufficient knowledge to answer. Bolger's recent wins with all those Galileo horses has got me wondering. Bolger books a mare with Galileo, pays Coolmore the fee and all and BINGO he has a new champion who he may then sell on to Coolmore's rival as has happened. Now I know it's not that bloody simple, but he has done it with three horses already. Would Coolmore ever think of not accepting a booking from a mare of his??? Thinking, fuck that, we've got the Daddy and this bloke is making a mint with his offspring and on top of it, selling em on to Darley. Now Darley have got Teofilo (I think) and New Approach. Or am I just being naive?

It's a cracking question Carmona in fairness. I read an interview with Bolger a few years ago before the appearance of Teofilo and before anyone realised how good a stallion Galileo was going to be. Bolger said that he was sending as many mares as possible to Galileo while he could still afford it. So, he took a punt on it and it has paid off beautifully.

In the case of Teofilo I think the Sheik may have bought a stake in him and he stands at Darley but Bolger didn't do a full sale a la New Approach.

In the case of Coolmore I'd say it's a case of mixed feelings, it allows them to jack up the price for a go off Galileo but the arabs have snapped up a few beauties alright. I just looked on their website and I see that the fee is private, maybe he's up in the Saddlers Wells/Giants Causeway bracket of well over 100k? At the same time business can go the other way. Soldier of Fortune was bred by Bolger I think. Funnily enough Soldier is also a son of Galileo. Swings and roundabouts I'd say.

Anyway I'm just a regular punter, I'll be interested to see what an actual expert has to say.

If every stud just bred off their own mares there would be no racing industry.
Imagine if Liam Cashman just covered his own mares with Presenting , there would nothing coming through in the NH field

Sure I know they have to sell, business is business. Just wondering would they be looking at Who they're doing business with.

Yes you are. It's a buisness. Not every mare that's covered produces champions.

That is all.

are you a Castlelyons man Emurf??
Great question Carmona - I may have been privy to a little inside info on Teofilo - Originally he was owned by 4 individuals - saw their loan applications!!!!!! Expensive legs!
