A great gig. I was just looking at some photos I took the other day.

I'd gone up to the St Francis Hall Dublin Gig in 81 which was great but very short (40 mins) no encore, no ceremony or any Joy Division songs, but the was much better, especially in the light of what happened a couple of hours before the gig.

A few of us were wandering through the Savoy at about 6pm when we spotted the band having their pre gig meal in a local restaurant. As we were young and stupid we decided to march in and ask them for their autographs. Instead of telling us to get lost as we were interrupting their meal, they dutifully signed everything we put before them including my bootleg copy of the Factory Sample EP. I remember Stephen Morris asking me about it.

At the time New Order were like Gods to us and we could barely string two sentences together when speaking to them. I've always really appreciated how they treated us when it could have gone so wrong, (especially with Hookies rep). We were on such a high afterwards that I barely remember the gig itself.

I saw them several times after that but nothing came close to the 83 gig. Looking forward to picking up the DVD. (PS don't remember any cameras there, so it must have been one camera over the sound desk.

wasn't there a famous New Order gig in Cork at some stage where the atmosphere with the crowd turned a bit bolshie and one of the band made some fairly disparaging remarks?

That was in Connolly Hall in 85 if I remember correctly. there was a load of "punks" shouting for Joy Division all night and then some langer threw a bottle at Hooky, he ducked and it hit Stephen Morris, I think. Then Hooky calls the feen a "thick ignorant Irish bastid" or words to that effect. great gig apart from that. It was the first time I heard Let's Go before they added the dodgy vocal — what a bass riff!
