Default Using remote desktop: any downsides?

Just got remote desktop working there and it seems too good to be true.
I travel a lot and it would be handy not to have to bring my laptop with me everywhere I go. Leaving it behind in Ireland and dialing into it from an internet café sounds the ideal way to go.

Anyone experience any difficulties with this abroad or with internet cafés?
Do they generally allow it?

Ta.

I've only found it useful a handful of times ... running some VM ware stuff on a blade system in another continent ... otherwise I use OpenSSH. Much better. Can't stress enough etc.

Also, when I was using remote desktop, I actually accessed it through an SSH tunnel. So all was encrypted. That's going to be your main problem, security. Both system and personal/privacy.

Wait now, are you using Windows Remote Desktop, or Apple Remote Desktop?

Just spotted there you have to buy Apples one for 300 dollars!
http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/

Fucking disgrace!

And if its windows your using, how can you dial into your laptop?

The only way i can see you doing it, is by using the IP Address.
I have to say Remote Desktop on a Lan is the business, i use it all the time.

I hear VNC is meant to be good for connecting over the net though.
