Not being insensitive here, but is that good enough reason to withdraw? I'm pretty sure we'd a guy play for us whose father died the night before and my own grandmother died the night before a GAA game but I still played.

i'm assuming he was particularly close to her and with qualification now more or less gone the game is, largely, meaningless.
Stephen Ireland has done his bit (5 goals in 6 games) so if he feels the need to be with his family at this time then he should be allowed go.

I don't disagree, but if she was in poor health it would maybe have been better miss the Slovakia game. Not criticising the guy, just wondering if ye'd all do the same thing.

quite often with these things the passing may well have been sudden

he's right...family is important...and we wont qualify now anyway. should just look to pick up as many poibts as possible...find our best team and get ready for world cup qualifiers
