SD Card I/O error

I've got an SD card with some photos on it; they are viewable in the camera until I hit upon one which is somehow corrupted, this reaps a system error and the camera shuts down.

When I put the card in my computer to access it I get the message "E:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

I've tried software for recovering data from flash drives, but they can't access it in the first place... I'm as stumped as a tree from which the upper portion has been removed...
