The problem isn't Scholes, the problem is what's around him. You don't see Kaka marauding into tackles.
that's because Milan don't play wingers, and Gattuso, Seedorf, Ambrosini do that work. Scholes isn't a similar player to Kaka, ...he's more like Pirlo if you're going to compare.

..United like to have players from their home association, and don't mind paying over the odds for such.

But that's only their system. Utd don't HAVE to play wingers either. That's how the manager sets them up. A good manager gets the best, and more, out of each of his players over a relatively consistent speel during the season. Everyone's going to have a few bad games, granted, but Scholes, in my opinion, is one of United's very best players consistently in Europe.
So a 5 man midfield rather than a 12th man on the pitch. You fucking loon
it was a figure of speech to describe his role on the pitch, I'm not campaigning to Platini for a 12th man to match the 'mighty' pool.
let me spell it out, If you play 4-4-2 with wingers, (such as United), IMO I wouldn't have Scholes in the team at the very highest level, ..to mix it with the European giants.
..unless you've got a genius like Keane beside him.

Fair enough, but I'll make a prediction, if Hargreaves & Carrick are your central pairing next season in Europe you won't get past the quarters.
And just for the record, my disdain for all things Hargreaves is on show now and not to be mistaken for any ABUism next season if he does sign. Maybe I was wrong, maybe you can polish a shite.

United have to play wingers, it's as cemented as playing in red, ..Billy Meredith, Gordon Hill, Giggs. With Ronaldo to drift up front and Giggs allround game United have many options and are not limited by conventional wingers.
can people note that from the beginning I've speculated next season to having Carrick, Scholes AND Hargreaves in their next year, it's not one or the other.
re Sound, Hargreaves is a better ball winner and hustler than Scholes and this United team needs a bit of that, I haven't called for Scholes to be dropped in any of the posts.

I've never been too crazy about Paul Scholes, I've always thought of him as a luxury player.
That's why I'm looking forward to Hargreaves being added to the squad, I've got a lot of time for Hargreaves and think it will give United a lot more control in the years to come.
I see the midfield next year being shared between Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Hargreaves and Ronaldo with Giggs and Scholes each featuring in only about 30 league games.
With Kaka blossoming now at 25, the future is bright for United's Ronaldo and Rooney at 22 and 21 to develop further.... and if those players along with other recent acquisitions can nail a title medal in the coming weeks than the future is looking dazzling!!!
In fact there should be a hell of lot more threads thrown up today to celebrate last night result, ..as in the the coming couple of weeks and years things are going to get very tough for the abu-se

I'd accept POL's and KK's criticisms of his defensive game and thereby the general midfield influence.
I give full credit to Milan over the semis, ....and I won't pull the defensive injuries excuse, ...sure, the second goals in both games were absolute gifts to Milan, but they had chances to score additonal goals in both games.
but the difference was with Gattuso on the pitch for the first 60 minutes in the first and similarly in the second leg, ..he was a monster. ...similar to Keane in Turin. Scholes and Carrick were outplayed in the first half of both games, they exerted some control around the hour mark last night but it wasn't enough, but Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes will give United good options in coming seasons.
This league title will blood a good few of the players and galvanise United for future battles and is more important than last night.
Utd's best performances this season have come with Scholes missing.

You're absolutely right about the fee. The figure being bandied about is ridiculous. He's not a £20m player. However, he's not being rated at that level because he's English but because Bayern want us to pay a vanity tax on him to make them feel big and special or something.
You're wrong about Scholes. The argument is that if we're going to have a luxury player or two on the field, we shouldn't have him at centre-mid and it would be better to have such a player further up the field.
Utd have been at their best this season with two holding midfielders (Carrick plus O'Shea), a three in front of those and a strong centre-forward up top. We've attempted to play Scholes as one of the holding midfielder and in the three and I think he undermines the team shape as a whole when he plays.
But what would Utd fans know, we just watch him every week. Ask Sound instead, he reckons Scholes is still class.

Funnily enough what set the ball in motion was 9/11. With the events happening in New York on a Tuesday UEFA decided to go ahead with that nights matches really out of panic more than anything else. Having had a bit more time to judge whether Wednesday's game should go ahead or not the decided to postpone them til a few European week in October.
United were due to play Olympicakos in Greece that Wednesday and were in Anthens when the discovered the game was off & were informed of the week the game would be played.
Seeing as that week was originally marked as a free European week, the FA decided to have the 3rd round League Cup games that week but as United had to return to Greece & I think Arsenal had to play that week in Europe as well, the tie between United & Arsenal would be pushed back.
Both clubs decided that 2nd string/youth sides would be played in the tie so both said why not play the game on the Monday night evening though they had games on the Sunday (United at Anfield, Arsenal at home to Charlton methinks). So Fergie after playing Scholes in the 2nd half on Sunday put him in Mondays squad as well. The only player he put in both squads that had played on Sunday. Therefore its led to Scholes having an arguement with Fergie.
