Default sound card

don't know if there has been a thread asking this already but i'm looking for a decent soundcard that won't break the bank, decent amount of connections too.

any help greatly appreciated, i found the midi controller thread very helpful, so hopefully the same here.

I use the Terratec Producer Phase 26 USB Warren, has lots of connections and has an ASIO mode as well. I bought it in australia for around 300 dollars which is around 200 euro I think.

I'm using it for Traktor and Reason and have no problems. I've also seen it used for a traktor set in a nightclub a couple of years ago and it sounded grand.

better to avoid usb connection in an audio interface i reckon

if you don't need multiple i/0 the m-audio audiophile is cheap as chips, very stable and should run at a latency of 64 samples (1ms delay) if your computer is half decent

if you have a laptop machine the echo indigo seems to have a lot of fans

USB is fine as long as it's USB 2.0, which is pretty much the same speed as firewire 400.

I second the M Audio, very stable on a PC, good sound quality. The mic pres are very bright sounding in a good way. If you're recording DI get a DI box, the instrument input is not great.
