Really looking forward to this. This is a fantastic chance for bands like ourselves who aren't well known to have a crack at doing what we do in a top notch venue.
Listening to new music isn't always the easiest thing to do. More often than not you'll see the likes us of us a small bar, the place is half empty (it's harder than you'd imagine to drag people to a gig)and the sound is often off putting. (No disrespect whatsoever to anyone who has ever done sound for us btw, I've done our own sound on more than a few occasions so I'd include myself here) - I mean more that it's got to be a certain level of volume due to drumkits, big amps etc, and in a small bar that usually means it's quite loud. Some people love that, some people don't. This will give us an opportunity to play our stuff with a setup that we wouldn't be able to dream of using normally. top quality sound & lighting gear and lads who seriously know their stuff operating it, and as a result anyone coming along will get to hear some new original music sounding as good as they can.
Only downside for us is any mistakes or messups are going to be seriously highlighted. So we'll have to push ourselves to be at the top of our game and I'd imagine every band, songwriter and musician involved will be the same, it's a big opportunity so we'll all be playing as well as we can.
So yeah in short please try to come along to this, it's great to see somewhere as big as the opera house going out on a limb to support local musicians like this. If it goes well who knows maybe it'll lead to more nights like this.
You'll hopefully get to see some great new music in a nice setting with good sound, and with everyone involved pushing themselves to make it a good night. We'll probably get a stroke or something from the nerves but sure we'll do what we can, and if you don't like us surely one of these will take yer fancy!
