And pressure as my father says is for tyres; not for humans. You can either do the job or you can't... some people thrive on high targets, others fail... and leave. Not exactly a new phenomenon....

I would imagine if I wanted to create a programme highlight your work as over-worked I could; as it could be done for every company; taking it as gospel that every part of the company is like that is a bit over-reactive. I know a few of their SDE's who get called for issues at all hours.... also bad; but ye know - part of the business !

And I doubt they ever asked their workers to run in the dark; engage their brain perhaps and highlight it ?
Pressure is fine, but everyone has a breaking point. You should know from jobs in big business at the bottom of the ladder, they work people very hard and often set unreasonable targets.

! health (- as it they wouldn't have had a notion what they were walking into...

Talking to my mate this morning, they did they exact (word for word) documentary on another centre near Birmingham few years ago.... so the timing does raise an eyebrow towards bias.

I really *really* doubt a multi-national in a Western Country would not have gotten the whole nine yards done on the H&S side on work safety standards. So it smacks of creating headlines for the sake of it.

(Disclaimer: I love Amazon and order a lot from them... as I detest shopping centres & shopping !!)

Not good for the business.... you can train someone I'd imagine to pick a parcel & put on a belt in a few days or less. So er I doubt there'd be much detriment to the business for such low job skilled work. I would imagine any business would prefer people who dislike their work to go.... so others can get a chance. (Not sure how that is naive - just common sense) Better off with motivated staff & be under-staffed; than be over-staffed with some unmotivated staff. They kill any business regardless of size...... just look @ the public sector with jobs for life !
Get off your arse and walk to a store, you hyprocrite! The bit about western companies being compliant with h&s is hilarious. Also, the lower level managers are under more pressure than the hourly worker. I know someone who works for them in a managerial position. She is a company girl, a conservative, god, company, and country kind of person, but she is breaking. They switch her targets abitarily, they've doubled the number of employees under her in less than a year, and create a hostile environment between managers and employees( they don't like them talking about the job) Enjoy your cheap toys though, which I don't have a problem with really, but Your attitude towards the reality of the employees is what is wrong with our society.

They did until sunners worked there for the summer and ended up in CUH getting chewing gum out of her gowl as she found a piece on the floor and thought her hymen fell out so she popped it back in again.

I blame tv producers.

At the end of the day, everyone hates going to work and almost complain on a regular basis.

I don't

So 1 biased programme with a biased actor, handful of posters & temp staff leaving; all adds up to what exactly ?

I don't nor have claimed to know best; I offered a different opinion based on knowing a much larger selection of them than your good self. I'd take first hand feedback than a biased programme thanks.

That's all.

Easy to make a programme if you already have bias in mind.... every multinational have suffered it (Apple & Foxconn case in point) As such, I tend to take these programmes with a very high level view.

is it weird that the most replies in this thread are from someone who neither a) works for apple nor b) even lives in cork?

or are we no longer mentioning that particular elephant in the room?

Sensationalism at it's best Perse.

I've been to Foxconn city and while the nets exist the suicide rate is low compared even to Cork.
