Greavsie went on the piss big time after their q.f win so Alf Ramsey dropped him. One of the greats who never won a W.C. medal. Hurst, despite scoring 2.5 goals in the final, was a journeyman by all accounts.
Dunno exactly what you mean by 'journeyman' but Hurst scored 24 goals in 49 caps, so he was a fairly handy and successful player - I'd use j'ourneyman' to describe someone with e.g 2-3 international caps.

Yea, Henderson is a good example of a journeyman, a bog average player; the fact that he has so many caps reflects England's usual policy of selecting from the top 6 or 7 clubs (including Liverpool).

Maybe the number of caps isn't the best yardstick but I'd consider a journeyman to be a bog average player, and that there are some gradations between that and world-class level.

I'd have had Hurst at about the level of Giroud; he said himself he wasn't world-class but "was comfortable in world-class company".
