Default Regina Spektor

A veteran of New York's anti-folk scene, Regina Spektor makes quirky, highly eclectic, but always personal music.

Born and raised in Moscow until age 9, Spektor listened to her father's bootleg tapes of Western pop and rock as a young child and also learned to play piano. She and her family moved from Russia to the Bronx, where she was immersed in American culture. Eventually, Spektor and her family became part of a community that balanced her Russian Jewish roots with her new home's culture. She continued to practice piano anywhere she could, including at her synagogue, until her family got a piano of their own. Spektor further developed her classical piano training by attending the SUNY Purchase Music Conservatory. During her studies, she was exposed to blues and jazz artists, including Billie Holiday, for the first time......

you can skip all the bio-ness if you want, but she's definitley worth a listen, she duetted with the strokes on the b-side of reptillia.

Her 3 albums can be listened to on her website www.reginaspektor.com.
Soviet Kitsch is the only album available in shops in Ireland at the moment.

You can watch a video for one of her songs here http://www.warnerreprise.com/asx/reg...r_us_300-v.asx

oh, and if any promoter could ever get her to play a gig in cork, i'd love you forever....

I've been proselytising (?) for her since I picked up Soviet Kitsch last year. She's wonderful. Thanks for the heads-up on other stuff.

not a bother, www.reginaspektor.net is a fantastic fan-site for lots of her early/live/non-released songs, click on 'the wires' to get to them
