The lads from Bouncers are back !

Mercury Theatre are delighted to announce their inaugural production of SHAKERS- ReStirred which opens on May 15th for a limited run only at The Cork Opera House. Mercury Theatre is Corks newest and most exciting and innovative theatre company. It was this creative troupe who were responsible for the phenomenally successful national tour of Bouncers, which played to packed auditoria across Ireland. Tickets for Mercury Theatre’s SHAKERS- ReStirred are on sale now from the Cork Opera House box office from €25/ €28 call 021 4270022 or book on-line at www.corkoperahouse.ie.* Previews open from May 10th – 12th tickets cost €20 all subject to booking fee of €2.50.

Mercury Theatre’s inaugural production SHAKERS- ReStirred by Jon Godber (Bouncers) and Jane Thorton is a thoroughly modern comedy set in one of Cork’s most trendy cocktail bars. Our heroines – four waitresses - offer a wickedly funny glimpse of their world.* Rushed off their feet, underpaid and overworked, they try to smile and help the difficult customers whilst coping with their own personal problems.

As was the case in Bouncers, four performers take on the four central roles, this time as waitresses and the various characters that they meet. Uniquely, in this production the four performers are men - playing women and playing women playing men! Having been hailed by Cork audiences for their scarily accurate portrayal of four beefy bouncers, the same cast now get their chance to wax their legs and show you what they can do with tights and lipstick! The result will have you in stitches.

Directed by Neal Pearson, who is as well known for his accomplished acting as well as his directorial skills (Bouncers, Theatre X), the cast also includes; Cormac Costello, Myles Horgan, Dominic Moore and Peter O’Mahony.

Cormac Costello is a well-established actor on Cork’s main stages; Cormac has just finished work on the premiere of the musical ‘Seagulls Dance’ and is soon to be seen on RTE’s new drama documentary ‘Fallout’.

Myles Horgan is now based in London although originally from Cork. He will be known to many as one of the original Fair City cast members and has worked extensively in Theatre, TV and Film. He stars in the new Ken Loach film ‘When The Wind Shakes The Barley’ due for release this summer.

Dominic Moore is an actor, writer and puppeteer. He worked on RTE’s ‘The Moorbegs’ for a number of years and is currently working on the Children’s programme, ‘Sattitude’.

Peter O’ Mahony is a well-known street performer in the city and director of a large number of plays for local communities. He is soon to be seen in Ken Loach’s film ‘The Wind that Shook the Barley’.

About Mercury Theatre: Comprising some of Cork’s most experienced and well known actors including Ciaran Bermingham, Cormac Costello, Dominic Moore, Peter O’ Mahoney and Neal Pearson, Mercury Theatre aims to provide theatre that is popular, accessible and entertaining without sacrificing any aspirations to be artful, innovative and challenging.

Reviews for Mercury Theatre’s Bouncer’s:

“ ...club subculture shines in the hilarity of recognition.” – The Irish Times.

“...The production is in gear and rolling all the way.” – Evening Echo

Tickets are on sale now for what is sure to be a sell out show. Shakers- ReStirred opens on the 15th May at The Cork Opera House at 8pm and runs until the 20th May. Tickets are priced €25/ €28 call 021 4270022 for more details. Previews on May 10, 11 & 12 are priced €20. All tickets are subject to booking fee of €2.50.
