Default External CD Writer

I have an 8 track digital recording studio at home and was wondering if anybody knows if an external cd writer could be hooked up to something like this?

you'll have to excuse my ignorance on the recording studio thingymajig......but wouldn't the whole idea of a digital recording studion be that you could hook it up to a pc or laptop......and use either an internal/external cd writer with it?

Ya, but i dont have a pc at home, and no real need for one and was wondering if this would be a cheaper alternative...

Let me get this straight, you want to use a PC accessory, without a pc?
Don't you see a problem here?

The 8 track I have has a hard drive (of some sort, it saves onto zip disks). I dont have a clue about these things, so i was wondering if it would be possible to hook up an external CD Writer to my 8 track recorder without the use of a PC.

Highly unlikely, a cd writer will need to be driven by software, ie, Nero.

OK fair enough. If I was to look into getting a PC at home, what kind of a package should I go for so? I want fairly good quality and obviously i`m looking for a cd writer but i`m not looking to spend stupid money on anything either...

if you really wanted to scrimp that is.

Nice one. Last question so, my ignorance must be irritating you at this stage.... how much is a half decent CD Writer? Any particular make? Also, can any computer read a Zip disk or what?

Well to read a zip disk you'll need a zip drive,
I think there are 2 diff types of zip drive, a 250MB and a 750MB.
Neither should cost more than 50 to 80 notes retail.

An internal cd writer should be less than 40 euro or so,
external maybe a bit more. Depends on the speed of the writer,
and the USb type.
I'm not even sure if you can buy a usb 1.1 writer anymore,
they're slower, perhaps 15 mins ot burn a cd.
USB2 writers will burn a cd in 2-3 mins.
But you'll need to make sure the machine has usb2 first.
