What on earth are you talking about? Dublin's public transport is a national embarrassment. I've seen infinitely better public transport in dirt poor nations' capitals.

No incentive for anyone to come and spend time in the lovely plazas. No coffee shops, restaurants. No toilets. Needle Park, dangerous people hanging around. There are pictures of almost empty streets in dry weather at prime times of day. You consider 'Footfall' as more valid evidence? The only Footfall figures presented were by City Hall, measured at the height of the Tourist Season. They compared that to mid winter and there's your evidence, Footfall is Up. Believe that or get real. Panaban is just one of many contributors. City Hall has been attacking the presence of vehicles for decades. Vast areas of road (and plenty of on street parking) have been replaced with vast swathes of slippery when wet paving.
They are presuming pedestrianisation is good because it has been done in many Cities very beautifully. But those Cities have Metros and efficient Bus networks. Many are also flat with extensive Cycle lanes and the weather to make that practical.

Complete over the top negativity. Cork is doing ok; great job opportunities for a small city, decent food options, it's safe and has a good nightlife. Cork has such ridiculous polarizing opinions online; the Save Cork City/Green Party/John Adams Artist crowd seem to think that Cork is Venice in the 17th century and every brick in the city is a core piece of a living museum of unimaginable value while the John Grace/Mister X/Pana Ban Taliban seem to think Cork is in the midst of an economic Mongol invasion; a city under attack where hope, rents, money and business of all kinds are looted by malicious faceless city councilors. In reality things could be better but they are ok...

If you ignore yesterday's Riot by juveniles immune to the Law, every Saturday night after 1AM. and Tim Hourihans who murdered near the Mardyke, having been attacked several times in recent years by randomers.
The City is indeed under attack by Vulture types. The Venice of the North was designed at 4 Stories high. For good reason, all these High rises will result in more streets, shops, homes, which will never see the sun.

All good though....

Default The Law is an Ass

Cars have been ignoring the Panaban in their thousands. When authorities try to apply nonsensical laws, people simply ignore them. They can't realistically prosecute all of us. We are Spartacus! https://www.echolive.ie/corknews/Cit...012bf8d016e-ds
Meanwhile City Hall continues to wrangle with truth. Given the spectacular return to Celtic Tiger levels of activity, an alleged reinstatement of footfall of + 2 percent is in reality a decline. The City Centre is dying. This will become blatantly obvious with 2020 vision. What to do about The Untouchables in City Hall? In 1672 the Dutch ate their Prime Minister.

Spent a good bit in town over Christmas, place was hopping every day, lovely atmosphere, didn't see any trouble.

In the days leading up to Christmas, there were cops at either end of Pana booking cars for being on the street.

One thing I noticed is that the signage about the ban is discreet enough. They could do with something temporary a bit more Las Vegas to hammer home that you're not supposed to drive on the street between 3 and 630pm.

TBH, I cant see a shred of evidence that the city is 'dying'. Seems the opposite to me.

Default Exception

Great, all those Billy McGill photos of an empty Patrick Street during the last year were obviously Fake News. All is good then, the best ever even.
Those 20 Closed Shops on Patrick Street will all open shortly, selling exclusive Smoky Coal from the newly reopened Virginia Coal Mines.

Eye Pod, you are basically saying " I don't think so"
I concur.
